Identify suitable land

We begin by assessing your land, ideally up to 25 acres, flat or gently-sloped and unshaded, to confirm suitability for a sub-5MW solar project. We assess planning constraints such as AONB, SSSI, heritage settings, flood zones, and access, along with proximity to an 11 kV or 33 kV grid connection. Our preference is to use whole fields, keeping the

land tidy, accessible, and available for grazing. We undertake a feasibility study to assess the potential of the grid and the land to establish a project plan and commercial proposal.

Secure planning & grid connection

Secure planning & grid connection

Secure planning & grid connection

Our in-house team prepares and submits the G99 grid application to the local Distribution Network Operator (DNO) to secure capacity and a point-of-connection. If this is successful, we will then proceed to secure land rights and progress the planning application. We will commission environmental and technical reports covering ecology, transport, glint and glare, and Biodiversity Net Gain at no cost to the landowner. National Planning Policy gives significant weight to the benefits of renewable energy, and grid reforms moving to a 'first ready, first connected' model, well-prepared sub-5MW schemes can now move faster and with lower risk.

Ready to build delivery

Ready to build delivery

Ready to build delivery

Once planning and grid are secured, we push the project forward through detailed design engineering, pre-construction surveys onto financial close and construction. A 5MW project can be completed in as little as four to six months, from piling, frames, panels, and inverters through to the grid connection. Commissioning is completed under G99 witness testing with the DNO before energisation. Landscaping and biodiversity measures are delivered in parallel, leaving the site ready to generate income and deliver wider environmental benefits for decades.

Once planning and grid are secured, we agree a long-term lease and move to construction. A 5MW project typically builds out in four to six months, from piling, frames, panels, and inverters through to the private cable connection. Secure planning & grid connection

Our in-house team prepares and submits the planning application alongside the G99 grid application to the local DNO. This includes environmental and technical reports covering ecology, transport, glint and glare, and Biodiversity Net Gain. With the 2024 NPPF updates prioritising renewable energy, and grid reforms moving to a 'first ready, first connected' model, well-prepared sub-5MW schemes now move faster and with lower risk.

50+ years of experience

Our principals have been developing wind and solar projects globally since the early days of the industry, across the UK, Europe, Africa, and Latin America.

£3.5bn funding raised

From institutional equity to project finance, our team has structured and closed some of the largest renewable energy transactions in emerging and developed markets.

5GW+ of renewables developed

With over five gigawatts of projects taken from feasibility through to construction and operation, we understand what it takes to get a project over the line.

Meet the Team

Tom Wrigley
Chief Executive Officer

City-trained at AIG before moving into infrastructure finance and renewable energy development. Spent nearly a decade at Winch Energy, scaling it into a global leader in off-grid solar across sub-Saharan Africa and Latin America — raising $20M from Total Energies and Itochu and securing over €1 billion in government contracts before the company was acquired by Total. Co-founded NeoGreen Hydrogen Corp with a $16 billion global project pipeline, exiting via management buyout in 2023. Recognised as UK Young Exporter of the Year finalist, 2019.

Nick Wrigley
Advisor

Co-founded UPC Renewables, developing over 3,000MW of wind power across four continents. Founded Winch Energy Group, a global leader in off-grid energy solutions across Africa and Latin America. Former Managing Partner for Europe at Clifford Chance, one of the world's leading law firms, from 1995 to 2006. Recognised with the Africa Power Elites Award and named an Export Champion by the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council. Has advised international listed companies and participated in UK Government trade missions to Ethiopia and Uganda.

Kier Hetherington
Chief Operating Officer

Founded OMS Technical, an ISO 9001-certified procurement and manufacturing business supplying the marine, oil & gas, and engineering sectors across the UK, Canada, and UAE. Built long-term supply relationships with major defence and shipbuilding clients including Babcock International, Irving Shipbuilding, and Seaspan, managing complex equipment procurement. That operational discipline in logistics, programme management and precision delivery is now applied to every solar project Cornish House Solar brings to construction.
